Leadership Opportunities at Hillel

Iowa Hillel is a place on campus for students to grow as leaders, improve their skills, and make an impact. Below you can find a variety of leadership opportunities within Hillel!


Student Board

Student Board serves as student representatives and leadership for University of Iowa undergraduate and graduate Jewish students for the Iowa Hillel House. Student Board’s mission is to provide opportunities for students at the University of Iowa to lead and engage in Jewish life as well as assist in Hillel’s mission is to be a visible and positively recognized centerpiece of Jewish life on campus.

There are seven roles on Student Board:

  • President

  • Vice President/Treasurer

  • Community Relations Chair

  • New Student Liaison

  • Hospitality Chair


Shalom Squad & Hospitality team

Shalom Squad

Serve as a friendly face and welcoming presence for students entering the building. Ensure all visitors sign in upon arrival, engage in conversation with those seeking connection, and offer tours to prospective students when staff are unavailable. 

Hospitality Team

Assist with event setup and cleanup at Hillel, ensuring that spaces are properly prepared before gatherings and then restored afterward. Hospitality interns will assist at Shabbat dinner, bagel brunches, and Jewish holiday celebrations.

Learning cohort Teaching assistant

Students who have participated in learning cohorts led by the Iowa Hillel House staff have the opportunity to return as teaching assistants for the same classes they once took. As teaching assistants, students help facilitate and teach within the cohorts, gaining valuable leadership experience. In recognition of their contributions, they also receive a stipend for their time and effort.
