How do I become a member of Iowa Hillel House?

There is no official membership at Iowa Hillel House. Simply sign up for events, hang out in the building during the day, and enjoy the company of fellow Jewish students on campus.

Can you help find my student a Jewish roommate?

Unfortunately, Iowa Hillel House cannot set up Jewish students to room with each other in the residence halls. But you can join our Jewish parents Facebook group to connect with folks who may also be looking to connect their students.

Where is the building located?

Our building is located at 122 E Market St. We sit at the corner of Market St and Dubuque only a block away from University of Iowa main campus! Our building is open for use during the day from 10am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 10am-Shabbat on Fridays.

Do I have to pay to attend Iowa Hillel House events?

Students do not need to pay to attend any Iowa Hillel House events!

What do you do for Shabbat?

Every Friday night Iowa Hillel House has student led services at 5:30pm for all to attend and a Kosher Shabbat dinner made in our industrial Kosher kitchen (which is only one of TWO Kosher kitchens in the whole state of Iowa!). Meals switch between meat and dairy and we always ave vegetarian options! Make sure to sign up for Shabbat dinner on our Luma to find out what we’re eating!

Does Iowa Hillel House provide services?

Iowa Hillel House provides student led services each week for Shabbat and for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. There is also a local Chabad House down the street and a synagogue about a 15 minute drive away.

My student needs a Rabbi, do you have one?

Iowa Hillel House does not have a Rabbi on staff but we can direct you to the Chabad House amd Agudas Achim Synagogue who do have a Rabbi on staff.

How many programs do you run each week?

On average, Iowa Hillel House runs three programs each week. Students and staff work together to put on weekly events with a variety of activities and topics. Everyone will be able to find an activity they enjoy!
